Hull Artists
HISTORY
The Hull Artists Studio Connection, also known as "Hull Artists" was organized nearly 20 years ago by artists living in and around Nantasket Beach in Hull, and the area that was once Paragon Park.
Once known primarily for Paragon Park, Nantasket Beach, and the music club, The Surf Nantasket, the arts community in Hull, Massachusetts, has grown and matured over to include a wide variety of artists and mediums. Known as the Hull Artists Studio Connection, we have 50 active members. We are geographically diverse: 54% of our membership is from Hull; 15% from Hingham; 16% from other South Shore communicates; and 15% from elsewhere. Some are legacy members, who are noted for their continued involvement and support since the group's inception, maintaining and promoting their works and the works of others over a long period of time. And many members are new, bringing a fresh outlook on the beauty of our local areas. Some members also have their own galleries within their studios, while others show only in our group shows and studio tours.
Some of our members teach and have taught for years in other associations or town art programs such as The Duxbury Art Center, the South Shore Art Center, and Braintree Adult Education, to name a few. Our hope is to establish more classes here in Hull, especially in conjunction with the Estuary Center at the Weir River on George Washington Blvd, Hull.
WHY HULL AND NANTSKET BEACH?
Boston’s South Shore is a very special place, and is a mecca for artists. Our members were born and raised all over the world, but now live and work in Hull and the surrounding communities. Did you know that Nantasket Beach was once home to world-famous Paragon Park? From the early 1920s until its closing in 1985, the park attracted millions of visitors each summer. One amusement, however, remains-- the grand Paragon Carousel. Still making memories after more then eight decades, it is open from April-October.
The Nantasket Beach area is also known for the DCR Reservation along Nantasket Beach consisting of the Bernie King Pavilion, the Mary Jeanette Murray Bath House, and miles of open ocean. Outstanding restaurants now attract visitors year-round, along with hotels, shopping, boating, and other recreation. Visit our Chamber of Commerce site for more information.
Hull, Hingham and other South Shore towns have been a haven for artists and writers for decades. Many works of artist Maurice Prendergast were inspired from his frequent visits to Hull, for example. We invite you to view the works and multidimensional talents of all of our artists on our "artists page". Not all artists are represented there, so please feel free to visit the
"MEMBERSHIP LIST" to explore all of our talented artists.
