Frank Viscarolasaga

I was born in the Basque Country, Spain and came to the USA though Ellis Island in 1958.  My family settled in the Back Bay, Boston and later, Brookline.  To avoid the draft I joined the Air force and served on Okinawa and Japan.  After serving in the Korean War I returned home to continue my education.  I was educated at Northeastern University and received my first degree in Fine Arts from the School of Education.  My graduate degree is in Spanish from Middlebury College, Vermont.  I then started my language teaching career on Nantucket Island.  I taught high school languages for four years. The summers were beautiful – the winters were very long.  Those long winters introduced me to a small group of artist on the island and where I met Roy Bailey.  He was a full fledged every day working artist.  Well know and often published in National Art Magazines.  He became my mentor.  We became close friends.  Close enough that he would allow me to observe him while he worked and he would encourage me to set up an easel and join him.  I soon became his go-for and apprentice.  That’s how I learned to paint.  Whatever you now see in one of my paintings that you like has to be, I think, Roy Bailey’s influence.
