Karen Flanagan:
As a young
girl, I loved to draw animals and faces. I was
inspired by my mother who worked as a colorist for
portrait studios. I have enjoyed painting a variety
of subject matter from figures sunbathing at the
beach, street scenes with figures, lobster and
fishing boats in the harbor, still life and animals.

hand built rather than wheel thrown. I use leaves
impressed into clay to form dishes, platters and
bowls. I hand carve and hand paint fish to create
dishes, bowls, platters and wall hangings. I use
nontoxic glazes on all of my pieces. Each piece is
food safe and can go into the dishwasher, oven and
microwave.
